The AI-powered summaries will organize comments into \u201ceasily digestible themes.\u201d In a Mr. Beast video YouTube used as an example, the tool generated topics including \u201cPeople love Bryan the bird,\u201d \u201cLazarbeam should be in more videos,\u201d \u201cNo submarine\u201d and \u201cMore 7 day challenges.\u201d You can tap on the topic to view the complete list of associated comments. The tool will only run \u201con a small number of videos in English\u201d with large comment sections.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re worried about YouTube\u2019s summaries spiraling out of control the way the platform\u2019s comment sections often do, the company says it won\u2019t pull content from unpublished messages, those held for review, any containing blocked words or those from blocked users. Further, creators can use the tool to delete individual comments if they see problematic (or otherwise unwanted) discussions about their videos.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, YouTube\u2019s conversational AI tool gives you a chatbot trained on whichever video you\u2019re watching. Generated by large language models (LLMs), the assistant lets you \u201cdive in deeper\u201d by asking questions about the content and fishing for related recommendations. The company says the AI tool, which appears similar to chatting with Bard<\/a>, draws on info from YouTube and the web, providing answers without interrupting playback. Eligible users can find it under a new \u201cAsk\u201d button in the YouTube app for Android.<\/p>\n

Starting today, YouTube Premium subscribers can opt into the comment summarizer on YouTube\u2019s experiments page<\/a>. However, the company says you won\u2019t see the \u201cTopics\u201d option for all videos. In addition, the conversational AI tool is only available now \u201cto a small number of people on a subset of videos,\u201d but YouTube Premium subscribers with Android devices will be able to sign up to try it in the coming weeks.
