If you thought Big Tech\u2019s dreadful year of layoffs<\/a> would be confined to 2023, you\u2019re (sadly) mistaken. Audible laid off around five percent of its employees on Thursday, which Variety<\/em> reports<\/a> is \u201cjust over 100 staffers.\u201d The cuts in the audiobook division are part of parent company Amazon\u2019s most recent round of layoffs, also affecting Prime Video, MGM, and Twitch<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe did not take this route without considerable thought,\u201d Audible CEO Bob Carrigan reportedly said in an audio memo delivered to staff. \u201cBut getting leaner and more efficient is the way we will need to operate now \u2014 and in the foreseeable future \u2014 in order to continue delivering best-in-class audio storytelling to our customers around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
