DJI is entering the portable power station market in the US and Europe with the launch of the Power 1000 and Power 500 aimed at home users or road warriors. The devices (released in China at the end of last year) can be used to power small appliances or charge devices like laptops or drones, and work in concert with solar panels to provide power on the road.

The Power 1000 (13kg or 29 pounds) has a 1,024 Wh capacity and can output up to 2,200W — enough to run a home microwave oven for about 1.3 hours and a car refrigerator for 19 hours, or charge a drone up to 12 times. The Power 500 (7.3 kg or 16.3 pounds) delivers 512 Wh of capacity and 1,000W of output for half the price.

The larger version supports 1200W fast recharge or 600W standard recharging (540W and 270W for the smaller version). Both can be fast-charged in 70 minutes for a 100 percent battery or 50 minutes to an 80 percent charge. Along with standard AC plugs, both have a pair of USB-C PD output ports that support 140W/100W charging for the Power 1000/Power 500 — enough for most laptops.

The market is fairly saturated with such devices (Jackery, Bluetti, Anker, others), but DJI is pitching this as an ideal way to charge its drones and other products. Released in China in December, it was already available in the US at Amazon and elsewhere via the grey market.

The Power 1000 is now on sale for $1,000 at DJI’s store, while the Power 500 costs $500. You can add a 120W Zignes solar panel for $299. For the latter, you’ll need DJI’s Power Solar Panel Adapter Module or DJI Power Car Power Outlet to SDC Power Cable.

Anker charging accessories are popular for good reason. They mirror many of the features found in first-party products and they're often cheaper too. That goes for the company's wireless MagGo lineup, which has been refreshed to include support for the Wireless Power Consortium's (WPC) new Qi2 charging standard.

There are seven products in Anker's new Qi2 MagGo range, including a 6,600mAh power bank that attaches to your phone and a compressible 3-in-1 fast-charging station for your AirPods, Apple Watch and 15-watt Qi2 phone charging. A new generation of Anker's 8-in-1 charging station will also be available, with a pair of USB-A ports, another pair of USB-C ports, three plugs and a Qi2 phone charger.

Before now, Anker's MagGo accessories were MagSafe compatible, rather than MagSafe certified, which meant they could only deliver 7.5-watt magnetic wireless charging instead of the full 15-watt output. Anker claims that its Qi2 MagGo product lineup is one of the first to be given a mark of full compliance through the Wireless Power Consortium's (WPC) most recent Qi2 official certification, which builds on top of Apple's tech.

Anker says that the effectiveness of each accessory is equal to Apple's 15W MagSafe technology and should work with any Apple MagSafe iPhone products. However, it's possible — though not confirmed — that Apple's iPhone 15 offerings will feature Qi2 support, removing the need for MagSafe certification.

Anker's new MagGo products are set to arrive in the fall, possibly around the same time Qi2-compatible phones will begin to hit the market.

Just days before CES 2024 officially kicks off, Belkin has debuted a new wireless charging dock that can perform a neat trick: it can swivel and tilt to track you while you move around a room. The Auto-Tracking Stand Pro does that by being the first device to exploit Apple’s DockKit framework that allows it to connect directly to an iPhone without the need for a third-party app, according to the company.

The Stand Pro uses motorization to swivel 360 degrees around its base, while tilting up to 90 degrees on the MagSafe arm. Once you attach an iPhone 12 or newer, it pairs to the base via NFC and works with any camera app including FaceTime, Instagram and Microsoft Teams. Then, when you’re on a conference call or doing social media, it’ll automatically move the phone around to keep you in frame — much like DJI’s Osmo Pocket 3.

Oh, and it’s also a charger, supporting up to 15 watts wireless fast charging when plugged into the wall (it can also run on battery power for about five hours use). It’s easy to disable tracking via a button so that it doesn’t follow you around like a lunatic when you just want to charge, and an LED shows whether tracking is currently active.

The $180 Stand Pro isn’t the first motorized tracker out there, as my colleague Richard Lai pointed out, and it certainly isn’t the cheapest. However, Belkin claims it’s the first to integrate Apple’s DockKit developer SDK, so we may see similar products in the future. The product is now on Belkin’s store, but there’s no word yet on availability.

Belkin also launched a number of other chargers at CES 2024. One that’s bound to be popular is the $150 BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 Magnetic Stand (now in stock) upgraded with the latest Qi2 charging standard. As with the previous version, it lets you charge your iPhone, Watch Series 7 or later and wireless earbuds at the same time. The company also announced the new Qi2-powered BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Power Bank starting at $40 for the 2,500 mAh version.

LG is already one of the most prolific EV battery manufacturers in the US, but it wants to build the devices that charge them, too. The company just opened just opened its first EV charger manufacturing facility in the US, a 59,000 square foot plant in in Fort Worth, Texas capable of manufacturing 10,000 units per year.

The company has already started to assemble 11kW home-style chargers there and will begin producing 175kW fast chargers in the first half of 2024. It plans to built 350kW ultra-fast chargers at some point this year designed for "commercial travel and long-distance transportation," LG wrote.

The Korean company said it chose Texas as it had existing facilities there and because the state offers "excellent logistics and transportation networks and is home to major operations for companies in industries ranging from automobile manufacturing to finance" (GM, Toyota and Tesla all have vehicle assembly plants in the state).

LG said it's committed to bolstering its EV charger business in Asia and Europe as well. The company, along with two partners, jumped into the game just two years ago, acquiring a South Korean EV battery charger business called AppleMango (since renamed to HiEV).

LG said at the time that the acquisition would allow it to "create synergy" with its EV battery business, along with products like energy storage and energy management systems. The company is also able to leverage its display expertise by marrying the chargers with "sturdy, dust- and water-proof" outdoor digital display units.

The move also allows LG to capitalize on a US push to build more public EV chargers. The nation currently has 169,741 charging ports (either DC fast or Level 2) across 65,113 stations, according to the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation. However, the Biden administration wants at least 500,000 public chargers by 2030. "By establishing our EV charger production factory in Texas, we will be able to actively respond to the rapidly growing demand for EV infrastructure in the U.S.,” said LG Business Solution president Jand Ik-hwan.
